Pollution Campaign
“Keep
Peru Beautiful" If you are over 40 and lived in the States during the 1970s you will remember the "Keep America Beautiful campaign" which featured an Indian who was upset with litter desecrating his environment. This one minute commercial transformed public awareness to the issue of littering. A little later Britain followed suit with the "Keep Britain Tidy" campaign. Again hearts and minds were won
Iron Eyes Cody from the 1970s "Keep America Beautiful " campaign
The Pyramid Project intends to do the same again for Peru. Littering here is still a problem and it seems odd that the problem hasn't yet been cleaned up when there is a known solution To the Western mind, thanks to good education, it seems impossible to understand how people can still not distinguish between manmade waste and organic rubbish but over here in Peru people genuinely do not make this distinction and waste is discarded to the "infinite" natural habitat. In years gone by nature was able to decompose man's waste because it was mostly organic. In the 1970s with Peru being 'behind' the developed world, the "Keep Peru Beautiful" campaign was still not required and would not have been understood. Now it is overdue Originally scheduled for September 2009 this pyramid mission has been bought forward and is being worked on. Currently the pyramid team is working with the Iquitos environmental group called Red Ambiental Loretana and a group of about 20 students have designed a campaign. Matthew, our film guy, will film a trial take of this and then it will be presented to a group of urban students to get their ideas and feedback Once we have better ideas Matthew will re-film and we will release the campaign on Iquitos television. Depending on the result we will adjust the campaign. When we finally have a version we consider good enough for national television we will ask for help to produce a better quality version
“Children's
Education" The other parallel offensive in this battle is to hire people who are good at motivating children and teachers. We will ask these people to visit local schools and target areas with a litter problem. We will get the kids to collect the litter there. The Pyramid fund will financially reward the schools that participate Oh by the way, the children regularly march in Iquitos for environmental issues...
“Can
you help" Please don't assume that this project is covered. We need a good editing studio and the talent to go with it. We need good contacts in the media. We will also need some very creative campaigners to take our experimental work and elevate it to a standard good enough for a national campaign. This is high profile marketing in an area our planet needs help in. If you succeed in helping us then your career could snowball. All interested parties should step up to this challenge Also if you have the confidence to inspire third world schools at both the pupil and teacher level with a passion for the environment then please come forward. Essentially this is semi-voluntary work pre September 2009 unless of course we get a great fund raiser on the team. Come on people, please use your ingenuity, let's help Peru on this one and make history!
